Song in the Silence (The Tale of Lanen Kaeler Book 1) by Elizabeth Kerner

Lanan has never left her farm before but has always dreamed of meeting dragons. When her father dies her time to travel has come. Before she leaves him the (Jamie who was the only person to show her love and who she thinks of as her true father) tells her the truth about her mother and that either he or a man named Malik (Who has promised his first born to demons) are her real father. She joins a crew of harvesters going to dragon isle unknowing that the ship is actually owned by Malik. When she arrives at the Isle her wish is fulfilled and she gets to talk with dragons and falls in love with the dragon king Akhor. Can she survive being sacrificed by Malik, Being killed by the dragons for violating the treaty and save the dragons greatest treasure?

I liked this book it kept me interested all the way through and am left wanting to read the next book. In the synopsis of the book it says Lanan leaves an abusive family this gave me doubts as to whether I would like the book but I do not know what there definition of abusive is because the most I would say is that she had a love less childhood. I quite liked the main characters, The way they finally found fulfilment of their life long desires to speak with one of another species.
