The Earthsea Quartet Tehanu (Book 4) By Ursula K. Le Guin

Tenar has been married to a farmer called Flint with two children since the last time we saw her. Flint has die and she is raising an abused and burned child called Therru. Tenar is called to see Ogion as he is dying and ends up staying in his house. She is there when Sparrowhawk returns riding the dragon Kalessin near death and with his power gone. Sparrowhawk flees to Tenar's farm from men sent from the king to ask him to his coronation because he feels shamed. Tenar starts having problems with the wizard of the local lord and flees to her far as well. After a time they get a message that a friend is dying and they return but end up confronting the Wizard and his allies.

I found the book interesting and but it seemed incomplete. Tenar spends the book angry at a women’s lot with life and with a bone to pick with men. But you are able to get past this and the story is quite good but right up to the last word nothing really seems to happen and you end up wanting some real resolution to the story.

The Earthsea Quartet The Farthest Shore (Book 3) By Ursula K. Le Guin

Magic is disapearing int the earthsea islands, People are even forgeting that it was ever real. Prince Arren comes to Roke with a warning for the Archmage. To the suprise of everyone when the Archmage sets out to find the cause of the of the problems with magic the only person he takes with him is the young Prince Arren.

I think this is the best book so far because I was interesting all the way through. The ending was a bit of a let down after all the build up. But I enjoyed reading the book more than the previous books.

The Earthsea Quartet The Tombs of Atuan (Book 2) By Ursula K. Le Guin

Tenar was taken from her family at 5 years old and take to the Temple of the nameless ones where she is told she is Arha First priestess of the nameless ones reborn. Later after she is come into her rights and privileges of the First Priestess she finds a sorcerer defiling the Undertomb (Sacred to the Nameless Ones). She captures him but does not kill him as she is supposed to but instead keeps him alive and questions him about the outside world. She gets in trouble when Kossil High priestess of the Godking finds out that she has not killed him. In fear of her life Tenar helps the sorcerer find the ring of Erreth-Akbe and flees from the Temple with him.

I found the beginning of this book when Tenar I being trained and living her life at the temple a bit tedious. But the story picked up when Sparrowhawk arrived. It is not one of my favourite books but I think if I read the Earthsea quartet again I would not upset to have to read it again.

The Earthsea Quartet A Wizard of Earthsea (Book 1) By Ursula K. Le Guin

This has always been called a classic of the Fantasy Genre This is the first time I have read it. Ged\Sparrowhawk is a young boy with great magical potential. As a young lad he saves his village and gets taken on as apprentice to the Mage Ogion but is too impatiant with Ogion's teaching methords. So he is sent to the school on Roke Isle of the Wise. In a challange with his rival Ged releases an evil shadow creature. Ged has a few adventures but always the shadow is hunting him. Eventually Ged realises that he must confront the shadow and sets out to hunt it down.
I enjoyed this book the story is enthralling though at times the descriptions of travelling can get tedious. I had watched the TV Mini series before reading this book and I am glad I did because I would hate the Mini series if I watched it now because it can only loosely be linked to the book.

Swords of Eveningstar (The Knights of Myth Drannor book 1) by Ed Greenwood

The young forester Florin Falconhand comes across a friend who is escorting a pain in the neck young noblewoman to his lord for him to try to civilise her. The adventure hungry Florin comes up with a scheme and after getting his friends permission kidnaps the noblewoman and takes her on a three day trek through the forest. Just as he s about to return her he hears and attack and rushes in. During the battle King Azoun comes across the battle and young Florin saves the kings life. As his reward Florin and his firends are awarded a charter to be adventurers and so is born the Swords of Eveningstar. This is one of Ed Greenwoods best it is funny and action packed and quite hard to put down. We see in this bookthat Cormyr has a high turn over in WarWizards (Not a jod with a high survival rate) and see that start of the famous Knights of Myth Drannor when they were less experianced as a walking disaster.

The Sword and the Flame (The Dragon King Saga book 3) by Stephen Lawhead

Many Years of peace have passed under Quentin rule as the Priest king he is married to Bria they have tree children and Quentin is trying to raise a great Cathedral to the most high. But the peace is about to end and Nimrood has returned and kidnaps Quentin son. Quentin quenches the light of Zhaligkeer in his anger over his sons kidnap. Now he must rescue his son, Stop Nimrood and regain the favour of the most high. This is my least favourite of the trilogy as Quentin comes off a bit whiney. But it is still a very good and entertaining book.

Warlords of Nin (The Dragon King Saga book 2) by Stephen Lawhead

10 Years have passed and the land has been peaceful but not an evil star is rising in the sky. It heralds the invasion of the Warlords of Nin. The only hope is for Quentin to fulfil the prophecy of the Priest King by forging the holy sword Zhaligkeer.
Zhaligkeer has a bit of the Excalibur feel to it the mystic sword that makes a king. This is another good story but the ending leaves a bit to be desired the ending to the battle is a bit pathetic. But it is still an enjoyable read.

In the Hall of the Dragon King (Dragon King Trilogy book 1) by Stephen Lawhead

This book has a very Robin Hood feeling to it. The King is captured while leading the army in a crusade, His brother tries to take the kingdom for his own, A loyal nable becomes an outlaw leader etc. But this is only a basis and the book is actually about a temple Acotyle Quentin who is sent to carry a message to the Queen when a dieing knight arrives at the temple.
An this leads him on a quest to save the king changing his life forever. This is a good read, most of the characters are pretty standard characters that you would expect in an arthurian story. Nimrood is the the standard villian all gloat and no thrust. But I really like the book it is an interesting and entertaining read and one of the first fantasy books I read.

Lion of Macedon by David Gemmell

Parmenion is Spartan half-breed (Half Macedonian) the seeress Tamis has had a vision of him stopping the dark birth and so decides to mould him to fit the type of man she feels is required to stop the birth. To do this she turns all the Spartan youths against him (Causing him to suffer many beatings) Parmenion is one of the best military thinkers in Sparta with the potential to be the greatest general. But tragedy forces him to leave Sparta and he is set on the path to becoming the Death of Nations. This is one of my favourite Gemmell books I think Parmenion is one of his darkest main characters and this the story is really intriguing.

A Darkness at Sethanon (The Riftwar Saga book 3) by Raymond E Feist

A year has passed since the events in Silverthorn and the darkness is rising again. Pug has returned from Kelewan and joined by Tomas sets out on a quest to find the one person that can help him stop the evil Macros the Black. Meanwhile Arutha and the other questers from Silverthorn head off to kill Murmandamus. This is not one of my favourite books but it is a good story and can keep your interest till the end. When I read this book I tend to read one story line while completely ignoring the other depending on my mood but having read the book so many times I know the story off by heart. I have only read oneFeist book that I was not too fussed with and this like most of his books is a good enjoyable way to spend your time.

Silverthorn by Raymond E. Feist

I have heard lots of people say they did not like this book and I can never understand that.
If you like Magician you should like this book. In my opinion the best thing about this book is Jimmy the Hand in Magician you get a sample of him but in this book the character comes into his own. In this book Lyam, Arutha and Martin have just finished the Eastern cities. and Arutha is returning to Krondor where a price has been put on his head. There is a botched attempt on his life and Anita is poisened. Arutha, Jimmy and the rest set out on a quest to find the cure. A second plot line is Pug trying to find out what evil power is rising and to do this he needs to return to Kelewan.

Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett

This is one of the best Discworld books. Featuring one of my Favourite characters Lu-Tze the history monk (Extremely under used) He is the mythical Sweeper who follows the Way of Mrs. Cosmopolite, (Which is something of a joke to the senior History monks). He is given as his apprentice the hugely talented Lobsang Ludd (An orphan who was raised by Ankh Morpork Thieves Guild) Together they head out to save the world from the glass clock. Meanwhile Death has tricked his granddaughter Susan into taking action against the Auditors who want to destroy intelligent life in the universe because it is not ordered and upsets their filing
