On the journey the are attacked by members of the Kraken society and their allies the captains of Luskan who wish to conquer Ruathym. Liriel finds herself in a familiar world of intrigue can she work out what’s going on, Carve her rune on the great tree Yaggsdrasil’s Child and save her friends and the isle of Ruathym?

I think this book is my favourite of the series as Liriel wins over the Elfmaid’s crew and the people of Ruathym.
