Kalliades and Banokles were among the Makene who had attacked Troy and are the only survivors when Agamemnon had their unit killed. Now they are outlaws and have joined a pirate crew but everything is about to change as the pirates catch and rape a young woman named Piria. Kalliades and Banokles rescue her and Kalliades vow to see her safely to her lover. Helikaon has been stabbed by Attalus and it looks like he is going o die. Before Attalus died he told Helikaon who had killed his father and by telling Priam whe delirious Helikaon has put Troy on the path to war.

I loved this book the story was enthralling and I love the way Gemmell was able to created great characters and stories out of historical events and mythological characters.
