The Lesser Kindred (The Tale of Lanen Kaeler Book 2) By Elizabeth Kerner

Lanen newly married to Varien (Once Akhor King of the True Dragons) but her peace is soon shattered by the demon master Berys. After being attacked by mercenaries Lanen and her friends sent out to confront Berys (Also hoping to find a way to heal the Lesser Kindred dragons). Along the way Lanen falls seriously ill and the only place she can be healed is the Collage of Mages in Verfaren were Berys is the archimage. Meanwhile the island home of the dragons is starting to destroy itself and it seems the only place the dragons can go to live is the continent of Kolmar.

I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. The characters are interesting and the story is well paced. My only problem were the parts of the story from Berys’s point of view I found them boring as he was a pretty lame and stereotypical Villain. But thankfully he did not detract from the story too much and the other characters like Will and Salera more than made up for him.

Restoration (The Rai-Kirah Book 3) By Carol Berg

Trouble has returned to the Derzhi Empire the emperor has been killed and Prince Aleksander has been blamed and forced to flee for his life. As Aleksander tries to survive and rally support to take back his empire he is aided by his most loyal friend Seyonne. But Seyonne has his own problems as he is struggling to control mad rages he is suffering and nightmare he is sure are being sent to him by the nameless god. Can Aleksander regain his empire and remove the cruel usurpers and can Seyonne defeat the nameless god while retaining his humanity or will he be the one to destroy the world, as he fears.

I really enjoyed this book and thought it a good conclusion to the trilogy. I was upset by al the minor characters that I liked who were killed off but the deaths were needed for the story. I did get irritated with Seyonne showing a stupid side that we had not seen in the previous books but on the whole a good book that I found hard to put down.

Rival's Son (Chronicles of Kydan Book 2) By Simon Brown

Maddyn Kevleren is dead and his plans for the colony of Kydan. Now the colony must build their own future but first they will have to face unrest between the colonists and the native Kydan’s can this be sorted out before they are once again forced to defend their homes. Quenion Axkevleren needs to heal her master Numoya Kevleren so he can set out to take his revenge on the city of Kydan. Empress Lerena Kevleren has killed her sister, all the Kevleren’s in Rivald and every Beloved loved by a Kevleren now nearly overwhelmed by overflowing Sefid and tottering on the edge of sanity she invades Kevlerenless Rivald to add it to her empire.

I did not really like the first book and Maddyn dying removed the only character I liked. So I did not start they book with high hopes. I found myself only interested in the events in the new land because the insane Hamilian Kevlerens and the pointless Rivaldian leaders bored. I also was not to fussed with Numoya Kevlerens story as he seemed to act like a whiney child. But I really enjoyed the events in Kydan as they tried to avoid a civil war and make the colonists and Kydans into one people.

Frostfell (Forgotten Realms: Wizards Book 4) by Mark Sehestedt

Amira is a war wizard of Cormyr but is taken captive by slavers working for the Fist of Winter who have been hunting for her son Jalan. They are rescued from the slavers by Gyaidun and Lendri exiles from the Vil Adanrath tribe of lythari elves but one of the Fists of Winter captures Jalan. They must hunt for him and find a way to defeat the powerful Fists of Winter. All will depend on understanding of events that happened in the ancient war between Raumathar and Narfell.

I did not like this book much I thought the pace of the book was too slow and It failed to keep my interest. It is the worst Forgotten Realms book I have read since bloodwalk.

Freedom's Apprentice (The Dead Rivers Trilogy Book 2) By Naomi Kritzer
After being kicked out of the Alashi, Lauria has decided to find all the slaves she returned to Kyros and Temar accompanies her with the hope of freeing the slaves of Sopho’s Harem. As they travel around freeing the slaves Lauria finds the slave’s reactions are not what she expected as they do not all forgive her. On the journey the start to learn some of the secrets of the Weavers and that there is strife within the order. But Lauria’s journeys keep taking her near Elpisia but how many times can she go there before Kyros manages to catch her?

I enjoy reading about the characters in this book but am not too fussed about the story. I find all the wanting to free the slaves and Djinni boring. I personally would have been on the Greeks side. But I will be buying the final books, as I want to find out how the story finishes.

Waylander (The Drenai Books) by David Gemmell
Waylander is an amoral Assassin and has been getting steadily worse over the Twenty years since he started hunting down the killers of his family. This cumulates when he assassinates the Drenai king starting a war that seems to be leading to the utter destruction of the Drenai nation. Until one day he saves a young priest Dardalion and is infected by his purity. Their association causes them to change Dardalion loses some of his purity and Waylander finds himself acting for good for the first time in years. When he is visited by the king’s father he promises to find the Drenai treasure The Armour of Bronze to make up for his deeds. Can he find and return the armour before the Drenai are defeated.

This is one of my favourite books and some of Gemmell's best work. Waylander is a fantastic character and his struggle to survive after being infected with good is really entertaining.

Hogfather by Terry Pratchett

Susan Sto-Helit only wants a normal life but as Hogswatch gets closer the supernatural world starts to drag her back in. When she finds her grandfather is acting as the Hogfather she can feel his old job calling to her and she determines to find out what has happened to the real Hogfather. Can she find him before it is too late and the Sun never rises again?

This is among my top four Discworld books and is by far the best of the books with Death as the main character. I think one of the best bits in the book is the part when we are being told about Susan dealing with the monsters bothering the children.

Windwalker (Forgotten Realms: Starlight and Shadows Book 1) by Elaine Cunningham

Now that he is cured it is time for Fyodor to return Rashemen and Liriel travels with him. When they get there they are faced with old adversaries the Dragon Hoard mercenaries out for revenge. Can Liriel survive, free the sea elves trapped in the tapestry and cure the damage done to the land of Rashemen during the Time of Troubles?

I do not think this book is as good as the previous two but it is still a good read and leaves me wanting some more stories about Liriel.

Tangled Webs (Forgotten Realms: Starlight and Shadows Book 1) by Elaine Cunningham

Liriel and Fyodor finally set out to the Isle of Ruathym on the ship of the pirate Hrolf the Unruly. On the journey the are attacked by members of the Kraken society and their allies the captains of Luskan who wish to conquer Ruathym. Liriel finds herself in a familiar world of intrigue can she work out what’s going on, Carve her rune on the great tree Yaggsdrasil’s Child and save her friends and the isle of Ruathym?

I think this book is my favourite of the series as Liriel wins over the Elfmaid’s crew and the people of Ruathym.

Daughter of the Drow (Forgotten Realms: Starlight and Shadows Book 1) by Elaine Cunningham

Liriel Baenre daughter of Gromph Baenre Archmage of Menzoberranzan has lived a life of partying and magical study. But this is now to end House Baenre needs priestesses to restore their power so she is sent to Arach-Tinilith to train to be a priestess. After meeting with a human warrior Liriel is intrigued with the world above but has a problem going there, as she would lose all her drow magic. But when she finds out about rune magic and acquires a powerful amulet the Windwalker. She can carry her magic with her as she quests to carve the rune that will allow her to permanently wield her magic outside of the underdark. Along the way she joins up with the human warrior Fyodor the Rashemen beserker who also needs the Windwalker to control his magic. When they lose the Windwalker to the Dragon Hoard drow mercenaries they must hunt them down to recover it.

This is one of my Favourite series I much prefer Liriel to Drizzt as she is still the amoral drow comfortable with who she is and what she wants As opposed to his self righteousness and constant whining about acceptance. Liriel is fun and a little evil.

Freedom's Gate (The Dead Rivers Trilogy Book 1) by Naomi Kritzer

Lauria is half Greek/Danibeki and is the favourite aide of Kyros a powerful Greek military officer. One day she is asked to go to another officer's household disguised as a slave and then escape to infiltrate the Alashi a bandit tribe that is supposed to be planning a major offensive. But after being raped by the Greek officer Lauria starts to doubt her loyalties as she gets to know the Alashi warrior sisterhood.

I was interested in the story of this book but would not say I liked it. I was on the side of the Greeks and Lauria changing sides irritated me. I will be buying the rest of the series partly because of my desire to complete series and partly because I would like to know how the series ends.

Song in the Silence (The Tale of Lanen Kaeler Book 1) by Elizabeth Kerner

Lanan has never left her farm before but has always dreamed of meeting dragons. When her father dies her time to travel has come. Before she leaves him the (Jamie who was the only person to show her love and who she thinks of as her true father) tells her the truth about her mother and that either he or a man named Malik (Who has promised his first born to demons) are her real father. She joins a crew of harvesters going to dragon isle unknowing that the ship is actually owned by Malik. When she arrives at the Isle her wish is fulfilled and she gets to talk with dragons and falls in love with the dragon king Akhor. Can she survive being sacrificed by Malik, Being killed by the dragons for violating the treaty and save the dragons greatest treasure?

I liked this book it kept me interested all the way through and am left wanting to read the next book. In the synopsis of the book it says Lanan leaves an abusive family this gave me doubts as to whether I would like the book but I do not know what there definition of abusive is because the most I would say is that she had a love less childhood. I quite liked the main characters, The way they finally found fulfilment of their life long desires to speak with one of another species.
